The ‘Cookie Jar Masters Friday’ not only coincided with the Bank Holiday Good Friday, but also the best day of weather Britain had seen so far this year. Goswick Golf Club

2023-03-16T21:55:49+00:00March 16th, 2023|Video|

Back in October we visited Goswick Golf Club, lying on a remote strip of ground 30 miles north of Newcastle and 6 miles south of Berwick upon Tweed. We're delighted with how this film came out - a break from tradition from our usual films! Goswick is a club with a rich history dating back to 1890. The initial course has evolved over time, steadily stretching northwards with the involvement of James Braid, Willie Park Jnr and more recently Mackenzie & Ebert. Because its slightly off the beaten path, not enough spotlight goes to clubs like Goswick, Seaton Carew or [...]

2023-03-16T21:48:08+00:00March 16th, 2023|Bruce's favourites, Podcasts, Tour Takes|

We sat down with equipment expert, golf pervert and good friend James Day  (aka @urbancustomclubs) to discuss the R&A and USGA's proposed changes to the golf ball regulations. We delved into what the new local rule could mean for players, how it might affect equipment manufacturers, and what it could mean for the future of the game. James offered some valuable insights on the topic, drawing on his years of experience in the industry. It was a fascinating conversation that shed light on some of the potential implications of these changes, and we encourage all golf fans to [...]

176 – A budget friendly trip to the US with the Tie Podcast

2023-02-28T05:00:18+00:00February 28th, 2023|Course Diaries, Golf Course Architecture, Podcasts|

Sam & Tom speak to Henry and Walker. A four way chat with two fellow podcasters: The Tie began in 2021 by two collegiate players Henry & Walker who shared a deep love for the game. Not just the competitive elements of the Tour and high ranking Amateur events, but also Course Architecture and the cultural side of the game. This is a beast of an episode. Before Christmas, Sam was a guest on their show talking about some trips in England on a shoestring budget and we were curious what $1,000 would get you for a trip [...]

Tour Journal: Royal Hague (Koninklijke Haagsche)

2023-02-23T19:51:54+00:00February 23rd, 2023|Blog|

A continued blog piece to coincide with our filming releases in The Netherlands... in partnership with Day 4: Koninklijke Haagsche (Royal Hague) Pulling into our hotel for the night in Wassenaar (an affluent suburb of Den Haag near the golf course), oddly enough it was the same brand of hotel we stayed in on our first night in Ghent - the sort of chain hotel in the Benelux region you would expect if Premier Inn and Village Hotels had a lovechild -  ‘Van Der Valk’.  We enjoyed a few scant minutes to throw our bags on the bed, a quick [...]

Netherlands Series – Koninklijke Haagsche (Royal Hague)

2023-02-21T19:08:06+00:00February 21st, 2023|Video|

Our fifth and final stop on our Netherlands series is from the revered Koninklijke Haagsche, a.k.a. Royal Hague. Whilst the club was the first to be founded in The Netherlands, the course that now plays home to the club was the brainchild of a wealthy Dutch-Jewish businessman Daniel Wolf. This club boasts a rich and fascinating history. The course is bold. Huge features, commensurate with the land it sits on and rounds out the final stages of the work of Colt and his associates in the Netherlands. https://youtu.be/nY-DLzD5Amc

175 – Jim Hartsell: When Revelation Comes

2023-02-21T09:24:08+00:00February 21st, 2023|Eclectic 18, Golf Course Architecture, Podcasts, Tom's favourites|

Jim joins the podcast this week to talk about his recent book: When Revelation Comes. The book is a story about his travels through Scotland following the tragic death of his son Jordan. Jim is one of the leading authorities on West Coast golf in Scotland, and the various nine hole / honesty box courses that seem to have been walked into existence over recent centuries. The book is hugely emotional, uplifting, and interesting, as well as being a great read on golf travel to some of the more remote corners of Scotland. Listeners can get 20% off this [...]
