Netherlands Series – Koninklijke Haagsche (Royal Hague)
Our fifth and final stop on our Netherlands series is from the revered Koninklijke Haagsche, a.k.a. Royal Hague. Whilst the club was the first to be founded in The Netherlands, the course that now plays home to the club was the brainchild of a wealthy Dutch-Jewish businessman Daniel Wolf. This club boasts a rich and fascinating history. The course is bold. Huge features, commensurate with the land it sits on and rounds out the final stages of the work of Colt and his associates in the Netherlands. https://youtu.be/nY-DLzD5Amc
Netherlands Series – Noordwijkse Golf Club
Our fourth stop off in The Netherlands was at Noordwijkse Golf Club. The most recent links course in the country, and product of passionate members who pioneered the project when the club was left without a home in 1972. The land at Noordwijkse is without doubt the strongest golfing terrain we found in the country. Pure white sand, blown out dunes, rolling and crashing landforms. The club are now embarking on the next chapter in their evolution with the assistance of Martin Ebert who is helping the club with a long term plan. https://youtu.be/SDoSEUP9Ehk
Netherlands Series – Kennemer Golf & Country Club

Home to 27 holes, each named after prominent figures in the clubs history - Van Hengel, Pennink & Colt - this is one of the most traditional and well regarded clubs in The Netherlands. https://youtu.be/33hgKFdM7ms Kennemer Narration. The coastal town of Zandvoort in North Holland is known for two things: beaches and Formula 1 racing. And just a stones throw from the famous beaches you will find the Kennemer Golf Club, one of the oldest and most traditional clubs in the Netherlands. It’s apparent from the moment you set foot inside the clubhouse at Kennemer that this is a club which is proud of its history. An aura much like many of the quintessential British [...]

Netherlands Series: Eindhovensche Golf
Kicking off with our film on Eindhovensche Golf, this was our first taste of golf in the Netherlands and, curiously, it’s the only club in The Netherlands without the word ‘club’ after its name. The history of Eindhovensche Golf is inseparably entwined with one of the great household names in electronics which was founded in the industrial city of Eindhoven in 1891: the Philips Company. One of the co-founders, Anton Philips, along with his wife, Anna, had the inspiration to develop recreational and leisure facilities to attract prospective employees to their headquarters. Harry Shapland Colt was engaged to design the course, which opened for play in 1930. The course at Eindhoven is a majestic heathland which weaves its way through an immense forest. One could easily fit two or three courses on this site but, to the credit of Eindhoven’s membership, Colt’s vision remains intact - indeed, [...]

The 12 Hole Original Open Championship Course at Prestwick
On the 17th October 1860, the first Open Championship was played. A 12 hole routing was in place at Prestwick in the early years thanks to old Tom Morris who moved to Ayrshire following his split from Allan Robertson in St Andrews. Willie Park Snr went on to win that first Open. The 12 hole routing as you will see is significantly different to the stereotypical 'out and back' links that many of the earliest clubs adopted. Holes of various lengths and shapes criss-cross around the course at Prestwick, with enormous amount of drama and challenge. Prestwick have put in a huge amount of work to reestablish this course over the last 12 months as part of the 150th Open Championship celebrations in Scotland, with particular thanks to Dave Edmundson - course manager at Prestwick. Whilst the 12 hole routing will only be in play for a couple of weeks, [...]
Story of a Golf Club: Royal St. George’s – 1922 Open Championship
A slight twist on our usual films, we wanted to share the story of the 1922 Open Championship at Royal St. George's. The Hagen win in 1922 ushered in a new era of American dominance in the professional game, with a gritty performance over his English and Scottish counterparts. Credit due to Tom Clavin's book 'Sir Walter, The flamboyant life of Walter Hagen', and in there he brilliantly describes the events as they unfolded with Bernard Darwin reporting from the fairways. Royal St. George's is a club steeped in history and one of the most significant clubs in the British Isle's - more can be found out about the club and history, as well as the evolution of the links here. https://youtu.be/_KriFILNaQI
