Aberdovey – Wales Tour 2024
Golf has been played at Aberdovey since 1892 when a rudimentary version of the game was played to flower pots, borrowed from a local house out in the links. One of its then members was none other than Bernard Darwin, the greatest golf correspondant of all time who wrote extensively about the game, and where Aberdovey held a special place in his heart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W714SoKBE8&t=28s
Borth & Ynyslas – Wales Tour 2024
This magical club across the estuary from its more famous neighbour - Aberdovey - is often overlooked, but loved by all who visit. Borth is a charming out and back links, a series of holes bisected by the road as you head into the town, with the holes in the dunes out of sight until you turn the corner on the 5th hole, a par 5, at which point they reveal themselves. We loved spending time here, and urge anyone travelling through this part of Wales to make the pilgrimage! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qWPYZsb15g
Royal St Davids Golf Club – Wales Tour 2024
Royal St David's - more affectionately known as 'Harlech' - is a truly unique place. Golf has been played here since 1894 when Harold Finch-Hatton was initially using the land to practice his boomerang skills on the links. The club was generally a second club for people heading to the coast, much like Westward Ho! We had a superb time here, having stopped over in town after Welshpool we were on the links at first light, with an afternoon game lined up at Borth & Ynyslas! The 750 year old castle that sits above the links at all times has its own unique history and is a UNESCO heritage site. IN fact, the castle was the last to fall in the revolt which ousted Charles I from power in 1642. We recorded a fascinating podcast with member Richard Fisher - the clubs archivist and one of Britains leading historians to [...]
Welshpool Golf Club – Wales Tour 2024
First stop on our travels through Wales is Welshpool just across the border from England, on the rolling hillside above the town. Welshpool was designed by James Braid in 1929 and features some extraordinary views, elevation change and incredibly good value golf. The sort of place we love most of all! The Old Course Reversed – St Andrews
Short film from our time in St Andrews, playing the reverse routing. Something that’s on Tiger Woods’ bucket list was a real treat. Huge thanks to the Links Trust at the Home of Golf @thehomeofgolf as well as Clyde Johnson from Renaissance Golf Design for sharing his wisdom on the pod. A Break In at Sunningdale Heath
Sunningdale Heath were introduced to renowned graffiti artists Troika paint, to explore how they could collaborate to bring something unique to the Golf Club. Sunningdale Heath is always striving to create an inclusive and fun atmosphere at the club, what better way to do this than through art. Fair to say this has never been done at a Golf Club before. Troika have designed a fun piece of art that is full of inclusive images, inspirational people, amusing illustrations and colour in abundance. From the start everybody involved knew how challenging this would be, something that had never been done before and that would really challenge. The vision was to create something that would showcase the clubs beliefs and at the same time put a smile on people’s faces, for children and adults to take inspiration from. All of the hard work has clearly paid off, Troika have created something [...]
