116 – Richard Bland

Coinciding neatly with the recent release of the Sky Documentary about his win at The Belfry, we recorded an interview with Richard Bland. Without doubt one of the great stories of 2021! In May he picked up his maiden European Tour victory on the 478th time of asking, making him the oldest first time winner on tour which kick-started a truly brilliant seasons performance! It's a great episode as we talk about a load of topics in the game, as well as sleeping on a 36 hole lead in the US Open and his year in general.  Latest Products

Rank Outsiders

Preface A few weeks ago, I was plodding my way down the 12th hole at Blackwell admiring the renovation work to the green site as part of the winter programme when Richard Pennell (@pitchmarks on twitter) from Woking Golf Club called me out of the blue. My initial thought was that I was in trouble for something I had said, but after some premature apologies and general well wishes between us Richard quickly got into the reason for the call. He wanted to write more about golf… An art form within the game which is sadly in decline, he asked whether he could put some essays together for us at Cookie Jar linked to some of our other forms of content. Our supporters will know we are only too happy to stand behind other people's professional endeavours and bask in the reflected glory so the answer was of course yes! [...]

Bushfoot Golf Club

Only 6 miles up the road from Portrush sits Bushfoot golf Club, nestled at the foot of the river Bush. Its a small 9-hole community golf club with a great history and some cracking holes! Playing here was a timely reminder why its so important to stay put in one location when travelling so you experience the full breadth of the golf on offer. Not just the trophy courses but the smaller ones that fly under the radar!

Royal County Down Golf Club: Ecstatic Dreams

When speaking of Royal County Down Golf Club, Bernard Darwin said it was 'the kind of golf that people play in their most ecstatic dreams'. A statement we wholeheartedly agree with and when we visited the club in October we could resist setting some of these beautiful aerial shots to some music! Royal County Down really is one of the greatest places to play on earth. It's a hard hitting course with views all around with the Mourne Mountains, Slieve Donard, the town and of course the sea with waves crashing up against the opening few holes. Initially laid out by Old Tom Morris on one of his great travels and one can only imagine the excitement he must have had when we arrived at the land in Newcaslte, N.I. It's also one of the most challenging links courses you will find. Despite the high towering dunes, blind [...]
