Masters Friday
It’s often said that The Masters is the curtain-raiser of the golfing year – seeing the pristine fairways and lightning-quick greens of Augusta National on TV means that the competitive season has truly arrived and the warmer, longer summer days out on the course are just around the corner. What better way to get into the mood than spending an afternoon at Blackwell, a place which we’re lucky enough to call home.
If you’re looking at the flier, you’re probably wondering why we have the image of the great Bobby Jones on there or why he looks so happy with himself? Well that was taken in 1930 at Blackwell, the day after he won The Open in his Grandslam year at Royal Liverpool, honouring a long standing commitment to Blackwell member and 1928 Walker Cup captain William Tweddell to come and play an exhibition game at his home club. It’s a little chapter in our history we are very proud of. Jones would go on to win at Merion and Interlaachen that year completing the ‘impregnable quadrilateral’ – as O.B. Keeler put it – and design a course out in Augusta, Georgia nextdoor to the Augusta Country Club with the world renowned Dr Alister Mackenzie, leaving us this legendary week to look forward to each year.
This will be a simple and very straight forward golf day. Arrival in the late morning for drinks, a two course lunch in the dining room (jackets & ties or similarly smart attire for ladies required please), and then 18 holes in the afternoon. More will be unveiled nearer the time as to the competitive aspects of the day.
We will have the golf on in the clubhouse in the evening, where drinks will be served. If you would like to register your interest for the event, please fill out the form below.
