‘The Nairn’, otherwise referred to as ‘Nairn’ Golf Club is another heavyweight links that sits in the Scottish Highlands, closely located to Inverness Airport. One of the big takeaways for us was the intimate feeling at Nairn. Our film will give you lots of context on the formation of the club and how the course has evolved over time, however when you step through the doors of the clubhouse you just get the sense that you’ve arrived at a very special club.

The archive room at Nairn is without question one of the greatest highlights – the product of several passionate members who in 2007 took it upon themselves to catalogue the clubs history and in doing so have created one truly beautiful room littered with artefacts from Nairn and further afield – a true celebration of their proud history.

The course itself is not gimmicky. It’s not tricked up or filled with memorable features, with the only exception being the icehouse at the turn – a nod to the areas history as a fishing village – instead its a rigorous examination of your ball striking and patience. Fairways are protected with bunkering and heavy rough, unlike other links courses which often afford you a bailout line on one side. At Nairn you’ll need to regularly step up and execute.

The greens themselves are referred around the British Isles, sat proudly on wonderful ground they run true and fast all year round and intricate slopes and undulations around them will see errant approach shots diverted away form the target which is where the challenge really sits.

In the highlands, there are perhaps 3 heavyweight courses that bucket list chasers will be looking to visit, and The Nairn rightly deserves its name amongst those. It’s not a pilgrimage like Dornoch, and it’s not got the drama that Castle Stuart might have, but it’s a place that’s incredibly special and somewhere we have loved visiting.
